Use of Sense Relations in Expressing Language Humour: TV Series Analysis
Kopicová, Linda ; Matuchová, Klára (advisor) ; Vít, Radek (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on sense relations, the syntagmatic and the paradigmatic axis, and their use in expressing language humour. The analysis was carried out in a corpus extracted from the TV series Friends and How I Met Your Mother. It strives to answer the question whether the sitcoms display the same number of comical incidences both in the first and the last season. Furthermore, it sheds some light on the linguistic realizations employed and the way they operate to trigger laughter. Finally, the thesis provides an insight into the universal tendencies of humour realizations and their reflection in the amassed data.
Comprehension of Polysemous Expressions in a Pre-School Child
Bendíková, Barbora ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Šormová, Kateřina (referee)
The bachelor's paper focuses on the comprehension of polysemous expressions and ambiguous syntactic constructions in pre-school children. The goal of the paper is to find out, whether and how children understand polysemy, focusing closer on chosen metaphorical and metonymical transfers, and ambiguity in selected constructions. An original battery of questions has been created for this purpose, the data were being collected by a series of recorded semi-structured interviews with three children. Afterwards, the interviews were transcribed using a combination of the transcription systems GAT 2 and CHAT and analyzed. The collected data also contained interviews with every child's parent to provide closer information about the child and its linguistic, mental and social development. The results of the paper have shown that children understand many of the metaphorical (e. g. personification) and metonymical (e. g. synecdoche) transfers. It seems however, that they perceive them mostly unconsciously (as something given). On the other hand, the collected data have suggested a certain ability of the children to produce the transfers freely, depending on the given context.

The practical part comprising the analysis of two classic comics works and one Japanese manga. Namely it is The Crow, The Crow: Skinnig the Wolves and The City of Light. These works were chosen intentionally because of their technical, thematic and cultural aspects, so the analysis can work with the wider scale of the artistic elements. The dissertation tries to defend the opinion, that the comics medium is multifunctional, it can contain full-blown artistic expression and it is able to work with any content. For better specification there are contained some...

Some Problems of Processing Verbs in Dialect Dictionary
Šipková, Milena
The author aims to emphasize the fact that the dialect lexicographer indispensably needs a broad theoretical lexicological skills for his work, i.e. that he sees (realizes/distinguishes) in phonological, morphological and word-formational morphs and morphems (prefixes, sufixes, endings) and in the syntactic behaviour of verbs important signals (indicators) of possible semantic differences. On the other side, it needs to be stressed that it primarily is the word and its meaning that stays in the centre of lexicographer’s attention, and though phonology, morphology, word-formation and syntax are respectable for him, i.e. he must take them into consideration, they, nevertheless, only play a supportive and stimulating role.
